Putting Experience
to Work

ET Mitchell has served as the Craven County Commissioner for District 4 since 2018, an area which includes Trent Woods, River Bend, and a large portion of New Bern on the western side of the rivers.  Previously, ET served as Alderman for  New Bern’s Third Ward: those areas of New Bern that lie east of the rivers, such as Taberna and Carolina Colours, plus the Ghent/Spencer historic neighborhoods and Old Towne.

ET and her husband moved to New Bern in 2009 after almost 25 years in the Washington DC area.  Although her family is from the Deep South, she defines herself as an Air Force Brat since she grew up on military installations around the country.  After graduating from the University of the South in 1981, ET was commissioned as an Naval Aviation Intelligence Officer and served ten years on Active Duty, frequently in the Far East and the Indian Ocean.  She was recalled for DESERT STORM, then spent another ten years at the Pentagon working in the National Military Command Center.  ET’s intelligence specialties were counter-espionage and crisis military operations.

Since moving to New Bern, ET has served on the North Carolina Military Affairs Commission, the Veterans Affairs Commission,  Allies for Cherry Point, the Board of Visitors for UNC Lineberger Cancer Research Center, the Boards of Trustees for Craven Community College and the Craven Pamlico Regional Library, the Board of Directors for the New Bern Housing Authority, and the Boards of Directors for several other non-profit organizations.  Still Serving is her motto.  She is also a member of American Legion Post 539.

She is married to W.G. Champion Mitchell, a retired CEO and attorney, and her son, Morgan, is employed by Dell in Austin.  ET’s hobbies are WWII, history, books, animals and landscaping.
